PERSONALITY: Erik is a man who has been firmly shaped by his experiences. As a Holocaust survivor and only member of his family to make it out of the Nazi death camps alive, Erik was soon enough consumed by his desire for revenge against the people who had taken everything good in his life and destroyed it. Rage was his motivating force. It was one which not only drove him but controlled him and his abilities. A fighter to his core because of the strong example that his father had given him during his youth and the hardness that he had developed through all of the things he had endured, Erik had always had an attitude that his existence was him against a world that wanted nothing to do with him. Considering himself alone, the only one like himself, for the longest time, he cemented walls that had begun to form during his time in Auschwitz not long after the end of the war and closed himself off from most forms of human contact in order to protect not only himself but others as well. Because of the nature of his ability and how it tied so strongly into his emotions, his control had always fluctuated wildly based on the situation that he found himself in. With the destruction that uncontrolled surges of his ability had been able to cause, Erik had always thought it best for everyone involved that he keep to himself. Not only did it limit how much others could hurt him, it limited how much he could hurt them. It was the best way for everyone because it gave him the freedom to carry out the revenge that he desired and protected anyone else from helping him shoulder his own burdens. Consumed with a singular desire to kill the man who had murdered his mother in front of him and unwilling to rest until he had achieved this goal, Erik didn't ever consider the possibility that he would ever escape from his solitary existence.

At least, until he met Charles. The revelation that he wasn't alone was both a weight lifted off his chest and a burden heaved onto his shoulders at the same time. While still at heart a solitary individual, the idea that there was a world full of individuals like him out there who needed someone to give him the security that he never had soon became a secondary motivation in Erik's actions. While killing Klaus Schimdt, now Sebastian Shaw, was still on the top of his priority list, he no longer had no plan beyond that. The longer that he stayed with Charles, the more the other man complicated his worldview. He had been so focused on revenge for so long that thinking beyond that had become difficult, but with the clarity that Charles offered him, Erik was able to see the world beyond his own small sphere. Unfortunately, what he saw was not any better than the reality that he had been living in since the end of the War. Humanity was still selfish and reactionary, against anything and everything that did not fit into their preset categories or followed their presupposed rules, and if they were so unwilling to bend these beliefs in order to be inclusive to their own kind, what chance did people like them have in this world? Unless they took the rights that they deserved, demanded respect, they would never get it. As long as they allowed themselves to be co-opted and utilized by the humans, by those lesser than them, they would never be people to anyone. They would be tools.

With his realist attitude in stark contrast to Charles's idealism towards their existence and Charles's hope that one act of heroics would prompt the world to embrace them as a whole both ridiculous and naive in Erik's view, the two friends held extremely opposing beliefs about the future of their kind as a species, especially in relationship to the rest of humanity, but they did their best not to allow these opposing beliefs to get in the way of their friendship. They were both intelligent men after all and differing beliefs to intelligent men merely yielded more fruitful debates. While initially that was the way things played out, as they went on, it became more and more clear to Erik just what their differences were going to do to the two of them if they continued the way they were. There's a sort of sick irony in the fact that his final epiphany came from the man that had murdered his mother and shaped him into the man that he had become, but there was no denying that when he stepped off Shaw's sub, he was a different person than when he stepped on.

And while he didn't expect his fears to be proven quite so quickly, when the military vessels of both America and Russia armed, aimed, and fired their entire payloads towards the beach in order to destroy the people who had just averted nuclear war and saved their lives, Erik knew that they weren't going to stop until they were destroyed, or they believed they had wiped out all of his kind. Those missiles were just the first shot fired in the inevitable war to follow between humanity and their betters and even though they mostly dropped harmlessly into the sea or exploded overhead, it was still a symbolic volley that marked the willingness of both parties to destroy each other. The results of the conflict were messy and not at all what he had intended, but in the end, Erik knew that in order to pursue his goals and preserve what little remained of his friendship with Charles, they had to separate. It wasn't a simple decision to walk away especially with Charles injured and the others still possibly in danger, but staying would have only made the situation worst. In the end, Erik does not doubt that he made the right choice in the end even if it meant that Charles and he were now enemies rather than friends.

As long as mutantkind had someone willing to fight for their freedom, it was worth whatever reputation he earned.

ABILITIES: Erik possesses the power to control all forms of magnetism. He can shape and manipulate magnetic fields that exist naturally or artificially and utilize these magnetic fields in order to manipulate items which respond to them. Although Erik’s primary power is control over magnetism, he can also project or manipulate any form of energy that is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, including visible light, radio waves, ultraviolet light, gamma rays, and x-rays, but his knowledge of his ability to control such things as well as his control when doing so is limited.

His years spent tracking down his parents murderers has also allowed him to craft several skill areas outside of his mutant ability such as battle strategy, concealment, and tracking, as well as the ability to utilize several different types of weaponry. Erik is also no idiot. While he wasn't schooled at the finest universities money can buy like Charles was, he has a decent understanding of both science and mathematics especially in relationship to mechanics and engineering as well as a strong desire and ability to learn. He's also fluent in several languages because of near constant relocation from one area to another after the war.

WEAKNESSES: Erik's most crippling weakness is his rage. Inflicted with it in one way or another since the death -- the murder -- of his mother in front of him, he's relied on it to fuel his power for the longest time. Even now that he has mastered his power beyond his rage, it still hampers him. Because of it, he isn't capable of the forgiveness that Charles is nor the benefit of the doubt, and he is capable of the sort of heinous violence that he's left in his wake these many years and intends to continue to commit.

CANON POINT: Post Film

WHY HAS YOUR CHARACTER CAUGHT THE EYE OF THE COLLECTOR?: Not only is Erik both strong and brilliant iconic figure, he's a perfect balance to Charles Xavier who is already in the city. Everyone knows that Professor X without a Magneto to play off of is just a waste.
